* Northwest Airlines will offer seasonal daily nonstop service from Memphis to Hartford, Connecticut beginning June 15, 2008 and return service beginning June 16, 2008. Twice daily nonstop service between its Memphis and Colorado Springs, Colo. Will also be offered beginning June 15, 2008. This new service will be operated by Northwest partner Pinnacle Airlines.

 

* Northwest Airlines it will offer daily nonstop service between the Minneapolis/St. Paul hub and Fort Wayne, Indiana beginning June 5, 2008. This new service will be operated by Northwest partner Pinnacle Airlines.

 

* Air Tran Airlines will \ begin service to San Antonio, Texas on June 11, 2008. With San Antonio as the airline’s 58th destination. The airline will offer four roundtrip nonstop flights between San Antonio International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

 

* Alaska Airlines is actively interviewing for light attendant positions to fill training classes throughout the 2008 calendar year. Alaska Airlines announced major upgrades to its California flight schedule beginning in April introducing more frequent flights departing on the hour or half-hour on routes between Seattle and six California markets.

 

* Beginning April 27 Alaska Airlines will offer 15 daily roundtrip Seattle-Los Angeles on weekdays with departures on the hour southbound and on the half-hour northbound. There will be seven daily roundtrip flights between Seattle and Oakland, San Jose and San Diego; nine daily roundtrip flights between Seattle and Orange County.

 

* United Airlines announced it will start flying to two new destinations in Canada — Quebec City and Victoria, B.C. — and will begin service to Helena and Kalispell, Mont. on June 5. United will also add service between Los Angeles and Tulsa, Okla.

* The merger negotiations of United and Continental Airlines are advancing. If talks are unsuccessful between Delta and Northwest, United could still negotiate a deal with Delta.

 

* Beginning June 5 United Airlines will be adding one daily round-trip route from Chicago Ohare and Quebec and Skywest (United Express Affiliate) will add one daily round-trip route from San Francisco and Victoria, British Columbia.

 

* Air Tran Airlines has added a new city to it’s non-stop routes….beginning May 21 the airline will fly three daily round-trip flights from Baltimore/Washington and Burlington, VT (new destination).

 

* Frontier Airlines will be adding 8 new cities to its current routes. Four Colorado Cities which will include Aspen, Colorado Springs, Durango and Grand Junction. The other four cities are Fargo, N.D., Jackson, WY, Missoula and Bozeman, Montana.

* JetBlue announced that it will be expanding its transcontinental service from Los Angeles International Airport this spring debuting May 21 from Los Angeles to Boston. In addition three additional Southern California routes will be added as well.

 

* The Delta/Northwest merger talks originally thought to be announced this week could take a few more weeks of talk negotiations.

 

* Virgin America started service today between San Francisco and San Diego. Service began in August 2007 and there are plans to service 10 cities within it’s first year of operation.

February 2008 Class News

* JetBlue Airlines will be expanding daily nonstop service from Boston to Chicago O’Hare and New Orleans beginning May 1st, 2008

 

* Latest updates on Delta Airlines Merger….Delta is undergoing talks with a variety of carriers such as United Airlines, Northwest Airlines and Continental Airlines has also been added to merger discussions. All discussions are preliminary at this time.

 

* TSA has released the names of the seven US airports for the pilot employee screening program. This pilot employee screening program is the result of the Omnibus appropriations bill pasted last year mandated by Congress. The seven airports are Boston Logan International, Jacksonville International, Stewart International, Denver, Kansas City, Eugene & Southwest Oregon. This pilot employee screening program will take place from May to July 2008

 

* Northwest Airlines announced January 31 that it will add The Brazilian – built Embraer 175 aircraft to its Detroit Fleet to run five daily departures from Detroit to Nashville, TN (2 a day), Manchester, N.H. (2 a day) and Green Bay, WI (1 a day)

 

* Five new domestic routes have also been added to NWA, one of them originating out of Detroit. Some of these routes include Minneapolis to Greenville/Spartanburg, S.C., and Ottawa, Ont., and from Memphis to Norfolk, VA and San Diego.

 

* AirTran Airlines has announced that the corporate headquarters will remain in Orlando, FL and will be adding 121 new jobs!

 

* USAirways reported a net profit of $427 million, and announced the recall of 216 involuntarily furloughed flight attendants. They have also introduced upgraded buy on board in-flight meals and snacks with its In-Flight Cafe service.

 

* Beginning April 6 US Airways Express carrier PSA Airlines will begin operating from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport to Fort Walton Beach, FL and Panama City, FL, and beginning May 5 service to Gulfport/Biloxi, MS will begin.
